- This class is to learn about information and websites for family history training for LDS Church members.
KINDS OF HELPS AVAILABLE FOR FAMILY HISTORY TRAINING
- Notes, articles, checklists, screencasts (videos), interactive lessons, PowerPoint presentations
- LDS Church has produced many good training materials, but they are not well-known
- LDS Church members also produce lots of materials geared towards FH in the LDS Church
- Lots of good FH materials on the Internet -- some websites are shown below
FAMILY HISTORY INFORMATION FROM THE LDS CHURCH
- Church has produced and continues to produce training materials for priesthood leaders, consultants, and members
- Some LDS FH websites require registration to be able to see everything
- Some of these sites are limited to LDS members with their membership number and confirmation date -- the log in information is checked against the Church records to verify they are Church members
- Registrations for each of these is separate, but you can use the same password and user name (if has not already been selected by someone else), if you want
- Sites requiring registration
- http://www.familysearch.org -- can see
all data on this site without registering, except for the temple ordinances data
- To see temple data you need your LDS membership number and confirmation date and an email address
- To upload GEDCOM's to Pedigree Resource File (PRF) and to ask questions via email you need to register
- Library/Education tab has lots of good FH information
- http://www.familysearchindexing.org -- anyone can
sign up to help index digital records
- https://consultant.familysearch.org -- for LDS priesthood leaders and consultants to sign up to receive password for Number 4
- https://lds.netdimensions.com -- FH instructions for priesthood leaders and consultants; many FH training modules, some are interactive
- http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library/fhcdirector/ -- Family History Online Guide
- For FHC Directors and Consultants -- FHC Director has to sign you up
- Usually shows the most up-to-date information

- Can sign up when it has been released in your LDS temple district
- Has already been released in more than half of the approximately 140 temple districts in the world (Sep 2008) -- See map on Miles

- Members get ready for new FamilySearch by working on cleaning up their genealogy databases before it is released in their temple district

- https://wiki.familysearch.org -- this is now the most important site for FH information on FamilySearch
- "wiki" means anyone can add to or edit it, but to change it you must register first
- Can view everything on it without registering
- Already includes all the FH Library research outlines, resource guides, word lists, letter writing guides, etc.

- FamilySearch Family Tree -- online genealogy program to store your data; shows data from new FamilySearch now
- Pedigree Viewer -- can upload a GEDCOM with many generations and view it all
